Quarter Sawn English Oak wood board. Quarter sawn Oak is far superior to crown cut Oak not least because of the wonderful visual effect of the medullary rays bursting out onto the surface of the board in a spectacular display referred to as'stretch marks' by one of our young, not long a Dad employees! But perhaps more importantly than that, quarter sawn Oak is much more stable than crown cut Oak and less prone to warping and cupping. In the olden days, all quality Oak joinery was made with quarter sawn Oak and this can be seen in the panel work of many of our old schools and institutional buildings.
